This is a picture about how to manage when there’s not enough chairs. Take the bedside drawer, ignore the wooden cracky sound and enjoy your meal.

Here’s a short explanation for those interested..

We wanted Salalah, but didn’t expect to get it so soon. Almost everyone crossing the border into Oman for the past two weeks, were detained (comfortably) typically one to three days.

Immigration was fine but it was the border police that was screening travellers leaving conflict Yemen, increasing via this crossing. Problem was no one was clear what they wanted or the duration.

Our Ambassador was there and that helped. We cleared it without being detained overnight. Problem was as students, most of us didn’t have the funds to stay in Oman that long.

I’ll expand on this later but long story short, everything was taken care of by a number of responsible caring locals. My family and I stayed in a furnished apartment.

It was a luxury either way, considering I and another student, walked a great length in that city knocking one door after another to no avail.

Here’s to those with kind hearts and remarkable hospitality.
