I am helping a remarkable Ugandan convert student to raise funds to build a mosque and madrasah in his village. This album is setup temporarily for this purpose. Read on if you’re interested. Leave a Comment or Private Message me for more info.
For the actual caption of each photo I post, I’ll write it up in the Comment Box.
The following is a collection of information I’ve gathered from multiple meetings with him. He even detailed to me the cost per window and number of windows plan to be included. I also got the help of another African student (who is closer to Hassan), who conveyed to me most of what you’ll be reading below.
His name is Hassan Sya’baan Sekiziiyivu, 35 years old, married with eight kids. I met him when I was involved in a students project here for converts during Ramadhan. He is by far one of the hardest working students in Dar al-Mustafa. He came to Tareem a year and a half ago and is leaving next month (Muharram 1439).
The money collected will be sent to Uganda, or here in Yemen. Habib Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Aydarus may be able to bring it there, as he will be visiting the East African region at end of the year. Hassan personally spent quite a bit of time with Habib Muhammad, reading books together in his office. The scholar has made plans to visit Hassan there.
Paraphrased from Hassan:
‘I attended Katoomu Islamic school in Luweeru upto primary level, as it got interrupted due to the civil war. Then I studied Islam specifically for six years after which began working and teaching in a local madrasah for six years, which was when I got married and began engaging in calling people to Allah with my wife.’
‘We saved up some money and purchased a land with the intention of establishing a madrasah and a mosque as per the advice and counsel received from one of the local scholars. The land is in the village Kaamuwanula in Nakasoogola which is south of Kampala, an area where there’s not much going on as far as Islam is concerned.’
‘I engaged in farming as a means of survival. Half would feed the students and half to sell.’
‘After acquiring the land I was unable to develop it due to the lack of finances. So the students would study and reside in a nearby mosque in the same village where the land is. I stayed at a nearby accommodation near to this mosque.’
‘Over the same period I was able to save up enough money to come (alone) to study in Tareem. I’ll be returning soon to continue with the work the, God willing.’
‘The current land is not yet developed and is not able to accommodate the students. The outstanding needs are as follows:
Development of Accommodation Facilities: USD7250
Establishment of the Mosque: USD5800
Establishment of the Madrasah: USD11600
Shukraan and may Allah reward you for the time you took out to read this letter insyaAllah.’ – Hassan
