At Q&A, what this ‘YouTube Sensation’ said blew me away.
We’re midway past the Dowra and only last night was Habib Kadhim al-Saqqaf’s first time teaching a class for the English speaking sub-group.
The class was on the famous classic text of Forty Hadith compiled by Imam an-Nawawi which prior to Habib Kadhim’s return, was taught by a remarkable senior student here. The young Sayyid Hamid – the son of Habib Omar BinHafidh.
It was a little difficult for the organisers because in the application form sent a while ago, a number of them said Habib Kadhim is the reason or cause for them intending to come all the way here.
However he had to go to Jordan with his mother to seek medical treatment for her.
The one hour class extended by an additional forty minutes, eating into dinner time of the already hungry students. Notice the body language of the attendees. That young boy was by the way busy head down writing notes.
One of them is Ibn Ali Miller whom I’ve gotten to know. I was told he’s some YouTube sensation after someone recorded a video of him breaking up a fight and after it going viral, he went on a number of places giving talks and doing interviews including popular tv shows.
You can just type his name in YouTube and watch videos connected to him. I’ve yet to watch any of because it was sufficient for me after getting to know him here, that he’s an amazing guy.
At Q&A, what this ‘YouTube Sensation’ said blew me away. After three others had asked, he raised his hand but did not ask a question. Line by line he said to the translator,
‘Please tell him we’re happy to see him.
Please tell him we were afraid that we wouldn’t see him.
Please tell him that we were all over here making a prayer for his mother and him.
Please ask him to make the same prayer for all of us here and our mothers, the same one he makes for his mother.
Thank you.’
Of the many years I’ve known him, I think it’s the first time Habib Kadhim needed a little time to digest and respond accordingly.
