I used to have no appreciation for this section of any type of gathering here.
This is from the Thursday night (night of Friday), gathering at the mosque of Habib Ali bin Abdullah al-Saqqaf (al-Sagoff) in Seiyoun, Hadhramout who lived about 300 years ago. Therefore this weekly gig you see, is about that old in age.
This is the section where reciters recite a solo poem of their choice written by a scholar. Spiritual in nature, deep in meaning, linguistically beautiful.
It falls in between the sections where poems or supplications are read in groups (the main juice of the party, as some might say), sometimes with percussions.
