See that boy that flapping the fan?
This was the funeral of probably to most loved man in Tareem in recent times. He passed away more than a year ago. To write about him will require a few posts, so I’ll save that for later.
And this for now will be the last of three posts I’ll write about Sayyid Abdul Qadir Jailani al-Haddar.
That was him, student leader, who in between conversations lifted hearts, sitting in the morning sun, fanning a scholar and elder who were sitting under the shade.
I’ve attended many talks, conferences and meetings about leadership. Many were (essentially) preoccupied with fanning the egos. And seeking to be fanned.
Until I came to Tareem, did I observe the meaning of responsibility and eagerness of service, and the absence of self, by many levels of leadership and non-leadership.
Because leadership was not their intention. Nor premise.
We should never forget that point.
